Senior Tax AnalystNewbridge

(Open to public competition)

Bord na Móna Lean Centre Business Unit currently has a need for a Senior Tax Analyst on a permanent basis.The role will be based in Newbridge and will report to the Tax Manager.This is a broad tax role covering all tax heads (direct and indirect taxes) with a mix of compliance and advisory work. The role will be responsible for calculation of year end tax charges for the group and preparation of corporation tax returns as well as assisting with the preparation and review of various other tax reporting and tax compliance obligations, ensuring adherence to statutory tax deadlines. The successful candidate will provide support to various teams across the group on tax-related queries as they arise and assist the Tax Manager in providing advice on approaches to implement the group’s overall strategy in a tax efficient manner with the use of external advisers as and when required.

The main duties and responsibilities of the role will include the following:

  • Preparation of corporation tax computations and returns along with current and deferred tax charges, related notes and audit support for annual statutory filings in line with internal and statutory deadlines. 
  • Liaising with external tax advisers to agree and finalise same in a timely manner. Preparation and posting of related tax journals and updating tax accounting disclosures in the financial statements for all entities. 
  • Support the Tax Manager to provide tax input as part of the annual budget process. Other corporate tax related tasks in line with statutory deadlines including calculation of preliminary tax payments, preparation and submission of Form 46G’s, support in maintaining up to date Transfer Pricing documentation and assistance with the completion of R&D tax credit claims including liaising with external advisers and internal project and finance teams.
  • Responsible for timely preparation and accurate submission of tax returns, together with payment of liabilities as applicable, to include VAT, PSWT, RCT, VIES, Intrastat and Annual VAT RTD in line with tax filing deadlines. Returns should be prepared maximising the use of BI reporting tools and supported by the finance graduate. Responsible for reporting non-taxable expenses and benefits provided to employees in line with Revenue’s Enhanced Reporting Requirements.

  • Support the Tax Manager in the provision of accurate tax advice to internal partners (e.g. Finance teams) and internal customers (e.g. Legal, HR, Treasury etc) on topics such as acquisitions, JV arrangements, business restructuring and financing options in an efficient and timely manner. 
  • Use external advisers as and when required to formulate and advise on tax efficient solutions. Support the Tax Manager to document and implement tax processes and procedures throughout the Group, including maintaining up to date policies and Tax Risk Register.
  • Assist the Tax Manager and work with external advisers to undertake regular reviews to ensure tax compliance throughout the Group to meet the requirements of Revenue under the Cooperative Compliance Framework. Oversee implementation of any recommendations identified to maintain a strong tax control environment.
  • Keep up to date with changes in tax legislation and Revenue practices and work with the Tax Manager to assess and communicate any impact of such changes to internal stakeholders. Provide training session to internal stakeholders (e.g. Finance, Accounts Payable etc) as may be required from time to time.
  • Develop strong working relationships with internal stakeholders throughout the Group as well as external stakeholders such as Tax Authorities and Advisors. Be a key point of contact for ad hoc day-to-day tax related queries including PAYE, VAT, PSWT and RCT from all areas of the Group.

  • Proactively participate in the Performance Management process to ensure delivery of own, and the wider team’s, objectives.

The Person:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualification, skills, knowledge and attributes:

  • Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA).
  • Professional Accountancy Desirable Qualification.
  • Level 8 Hons Degree in Accountancy, Business or related discipline.
  • Knowledge of integrated ERP system (preferably Oracle) and Microsoft Office. Experience in AlphaTax desirable. Self-starter with ability to work successfully on own and as a team player. Ability to multi-task and adapt to a fast paced and dynamic environment to ensure deadlines are met. Strong tax, technical ability and understanding of Irish tax legislation with Big 4 experience an advantage. Effective interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interact confidently with various stakeholders.
