Bord na Móna Recycling are thrilled to have had to opportunity to volunteer at Barretstown’s Helping Hands Day as part of efforts to raise vital funds for the charity which is the largest and most established organisation in Ireland providing therapeutic recreation camps and programmes to children affected by cancer and other serious illnesses.

As part of the Helping Hands Day a volunteer team from Bord na Móna visited Barretstown and helped to prepare the campus for the arrival of campers and families, engaging in a series of tasks including painting, cleaning, and gardening. The day concluded with a tree planting ceremony.

Bord na Móna Recycling presented a cheque of €20,000 to Barretstown and we will continue to donate a percentage of online bill payments made by our customers throughout the year to support Barretstown and other charity initiatives.

Barretstown rebuilds the lives of children affected by cancer and other serious illnesses by providing fun camps and therapeutic programmes designed to rebuild independence, confidence and self- esteem. All camps and programmes are provided free of charge to children and families.

For Barretstown the impact of Helping Hands is huge. Through the help of Bord na Móna Recycling and other corporate groups such volunteer days allow its facilities team to address long standing needs across its 500-acre campus in Kildare.

Commenting on the volunteering day, Cormac Manning, Head of Recycling at Bord na Móna said, “The Helping Hands volunteering day gave Bord Na Móna the chance to have a direct involvement in making Barretstown’s campus the safe, secure, beautiful and peaceful place it is for children and their families living with serious childhood illnesses. Bord Na Móna Recycling looks forward to our next volunteering day this summer, as we give more employees the opportunity to experience the magic of Barretstown and make a lasting impact.”

Tim O’Dea, Barretstown Director of Development commented:

“We are so thrilled to have Bord Na Móna Recycling as a charity partner here at Barretstown. Through their generous donations and their volunteering at our Helping Hands Days the Bord na Móna Recycling team are making the magic of Barretstown possible for children and families living with serious illness all over Ireland. We could not be more grateful for their support and look forward to working with the team in 2024 and growing our partnership even further”.

We also look forward to engaging in more volunteering and fundraising activities throughout 2024 to further support Barretstown and local charities.
