Volunteering at Barretstown’s Helping Hands Day

This past Tuesday, we had the incredible opportunity to once again be a part of Barretstown’s Helping Hands Day—a truly special event that marks the beginning of the summer season for Barretstown, a place that continues to inspire hope and healing for so many children and families.

Barretstown, known for its life-changing camps and therapeutic programs for children affected by serious illness, relies on community support to prepare for each season. Helping Hands Day is a cornerstone of that preparation – a day when volunteers come together to ensure the site is ready to welcome its first campers of the summer.

Our dedicated team of volunteers was proud to roll up their sleeves and get to work, embracing a full day of activity. From housework and deep cleaning to landscaping and gardening, every task was approached with care and enthusiasm. It was a rewarding experience to see how even the smallest contribution could make a tangible difference in creating a warm, welcoming environment for the children and families who will soon arrive.

The highlight of the day was a beautiful tree-planting ceremony. This year’s planting was led by our own Robert Dwyer and Anna Dynak, and served as a powerful reminder of the growth and resilience that Barretstown represents. The newly planted tree now stands as a living tribute to the spirit of community, compassion, and continuity that Helping Hands Day embodies.

Being involved in this day is always a humbling and uplifting experience. It reminds us of the importance of service, and how meaningful it is to give back—especially to an organization like Barretstown that provides joy, hope, and healing to children who need it most.

We encourage anyone who has the time and heart to consider getting involved. Whether through volunteering or participating in one of the many fundraising events throughout the year, there are countless ways to support Barretstown’s mission.
